During the year 2000, KYP will offer activities to be conducted on
the basis of 8-week terms.

Registration
Open registration for all KYP activities for the Winter Term will be
conducted from the time this notice is distributed until February 11.
Registration forms and payments may be turned in to the school office or
AIT in an envelope marked KYP Registration. Please remember
that full payment must accompany registration. To cover administrative
costs, each KYP participant will be assessed a registration fee of NT$
500 per term in addition to the cost of the selected activities.
Class Changes
If unanticipated circumstances arise (such as changes in venue or instructor
availability or failure to enroll the minimum number of students to carry
a course or activity), KYP reserves the right to add, cancel or change
classes.
Make Up Policy
1. If a student simply misses a class, there will be no make up.
2. When classes are cancelled due to weather, or other unforeseen circumstances, no make up classes will be scheduled. A partial refund will be given.
Credit and Refund Policy
If KYP cancels a class or program for any reason, a 100% credit or refund will be given. KYP credits are transferable to any other class or program for a period of one year from the completion of the withdrawal. The transferred credits can also be used by any members of the same family. If a participant wishes to withdraw from any class or program they will be entitled to a credit or refund on the following basis: If withdrawal is completed before the start of the first class, a NT$500 processing fee will be deducted from the program cost, and the remainder will be refunded. After the start of the first class, no refunds will be issued. A KYP class credit will be issued instead. After the third class there will be no credits or schedule changes allowed. Registration fees are non-refundable.
Financial Aid
KYP will not turn a child away from participating in its programs due
to an inability to pay for a program or activity fee. Partial or
full sponsorships are available based on individual need. Sponsorships
are made possible by contributions from community organizations such as
Lighthouse Rotary and individuals.

Program of Activities and Classes:
Young Artists Workshop
Hands on art class, experimenting with the tools and techniques of
drawing, painting, and collage. A class designed to teach visual
balance and inspire self expression through the uses of line and color.
For students in grades 4 and 5.

Sculpture Dough Creations
Maybe you’ve seen the magical work of Taiwan’s dough artists at a night
market. This new and unique craft form allows you to shape and mold
a dough-like material to make mini sculptures or 3-dimensional pieces with
intricate designs. Your imagination is your limit. Make gifts
for mom, holiday items, animals or other figures.

KYP Choral Singing
A children's singing opportunity at Kaohsiung Youth Program!
This vocal group is designed for boys and girls in grades
1-5. The class will focus on basic singing techniques: vocal
warm-ups, singing songs, memorizing, and performance. A method of
sight-reading music will be introduced in a fun way. This course
is helpful for people who like to sing but lack the necessary music reading
skills. (It would be fun for your child to learn to sing a few Chinese
songs)

Music Appreciation
This music appreciation class introduces the rudiments of musical terms,
and various rhythm instruments: sticks, drums, tone bells, cymbals, marimba...etc.
Come and explore the relationship between life and music. No prior
knowledge of music or singing necessary.

Martial Arts
The Kaohsiung Youth Program is fortunate to have Mr. Yang Fong-Shih
to serve as a coach of Martial Arts. Mr. Yang is a staff member of
the ROC Institute of Physical Education. He was the head coach for
the Chinese Taipei Team in the Sixth and Seventh World Cup Martial Arts
Competitions. He was one of the judges for the 1990 Asian Games Martial
Arts Contest held in Beijing. He has been appointed by the ROC government
to promote Martial Arts in the U.S. Mr. Yang will provide instruction
in the Wu-Shu Basic Form of Gung Fu. The basic form instruction will
cover: 1) The general ideas and features of Wu-Shu; 2) The
basic Wu-Shu exercises and stretches; 3) The usage of fists, palms,
elbow, waist, knees, feet and turning of the body; 4) The basic stances
such as horse riding, forward, backward, downward, etc. 5) Basic rolling
and sweeping; and 6) Basic punches, kicks, and blocks. Mr. Yang will
also teach the Wu-Shu Basic Exercises: Imitation of twelve animal forms.
More advanced students can study the Wu-Shu required Routine/International
Wu-Shu Competition Routine Forms. Instruction will also cover the
basics of Self Defense.

Creative Dance Class
This class is designed for kindergarten children. An excellent
way for younger children with no previous dance experience to become acquainted
with the KPY dance program. Basic dance concepts are presented through
a variety of exciting fun-filled group activities and story telling.

Preballet
Emphasis is on natural movement, such as running, skipping, jumping,
rolling, etc. Free expression is encouraged, while learning to participate
in a group. Improvisational games are also played in which children
are encouraged to make up their own dances. The class will introduce
simple ballet steps, in a reassuring and warm atmosphere of play.

Introduction to Modern/Jazz Class
Come and explore the world of jazz and modern dance. Students
will learn the basic techniques and movements of jazz and modern dance,
while gaining coordination, flexibility and rhythm. No experience
is necessary and all levels are welcome. Students will be selected
at the end of each quarter for special performances. Instructor Shih graduated
from City University of London, Laban Center for Movement & Dance.

Power Dance
The instructor is not available for the winter term.
Swimming
Come join the fun and learn how to swim at one of the best in-door
warm water pools with Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. It is the perfect
opportunity for parents to relax and exercise while waiting for their children.
There will be a special area exclusively for KYP swim classes. Coach

Come join in the excitement and challenge of KYP soccer! Meet a lot
of new friends, and improve your game with weekday skill building and Saturday
league games. Each player will receive a KYP T-shirt, and food and
drinks at the end of the season soccer awards ceremony. KYP will
provide game balls, shinguards and goals. In the event of rain, practices
will be cancelled.
